Homemade Bottle Labels for Cooking Oil

This is not a sewing project, but a project none the less.
I took empty bottles of wine, put them in a large pot of boiling water to take off the wine labels. They came off easy. I didn't have to scrape hard. I put on labels that were made using a word processor with copy free graphics. My husband Tony, who is "the best cook in the world," uses them to cook with almost every day, so he likes to have them very accessible.

These are the empty wine bottles now filled with the cooking oils--Looks more appealing!
This the the before pic--I hide them in the pantry.

Marisa's No-Sew Super Hero Capes for Small Children

While my youngest daughter Marisa was on maternity leave, she thought she would make some super hero capes--18 to be exact--to give away at her son's 4th birthday party this past June.

At first her sister and I thought that she might be crazy to want to make that many--too much work--but she did it! In her own words: "These were super easy!"

To make the logos, Marisa purchased Quilter's Template made the templates for the logos using Quilter's Template plastic she bought at JoAnn's store. She then used the templates on felt to make the logos. She did an excellent job! I helped in cutting out the capes that were made from fleece using toddler bibs as a template.  She folded the bib, then traced around the neck, then made the tracing bigger and longer to make the cape. Marisa thought the capes had to be cut with scissors because she never heard of a rotary cutter! Bless her heart.

Anyway, for the neck closure, I started out sewing the velcro on the necks of four of them, then ending up gluing on the velcro on the rest. Well see how well the glue stays on. If they do, then this could be a no-sew project.

Diaper/Wipes Case with Link to Tutorial

I made this diaper/wipes case using denim and home dec cotton fabric. I've been making these for a few years now for gifts. I also made a diaper bag/purse to go with it--my own design--but I never took any pics of it. I'll ask my daughter to take a few pics for me so I can post it another time.

Here again, the Angel Rose appliqué is stitched using my sewing machine.  The Rose Angel appliqué  is of my dear beloved Mom dressed as an angel at her older sister's First Holy Communion.
I printed the Rose Angel pic using the June Tailor Sew-In Inkjet Computer Printer Fabric, then applying two coats of Mod  Podge that dries clear.

Anyway, the tutorial for making the diaper/wipes case came from a website owned by Jan Andrea. Even though I've been making these for a few years now, I couldn't remember where to find the tutorial to link to. After much searching, I finally found her site!  I've bookmarked and wrote down her URL, so I can go to it again, since Jan has a lot of Baby Crafts

Since I've yet to write any tutorials for my own projects on this blog, I did want to have a link to Jan's tutorial for this project. Her tutorial may be a few years old, but I found it to be one of the best ones out there to make this diaper/wipes case. Jan's instructions are very clear with lots of pictures! Tutorials that have no pics "go in one eye and out the other."

If you have a chance, please take the time to navigate through her website, and be sure to read Jan Andrea's "About Me." She sounds like one extraordinary and busy woman!

Here is her fabulous tutorial:

Small Black Fabric w/Cherries Envelope Clutch

I made this small envelope clutch for one of my daughters' a few weeks ago. I've yet to part with it, as I really really would like to keep it for myself. The cotton fabric is so soft. It's one piece that is lined and has a red button that matches the cherries. It was very easy to make. I am working on tutorials for some of the things that I sew.
Front, closed with button. I used some fancy machine stitches around the top flap envelope.
